These stories are examples of a brewing change in steampunk, and as such I vancermeer read them without thinking about that label.

There is danger galore and threats vandermer being turned into squid soup. Vandermerr, to get myself a nice pair of flight goggles amn a waistcoat! This was a bit spoiled for me however by the excessive attention to romance.
Very enjoyable and a perfect place to begin the anthology. The Best Books of This collection showcases the most sensational Steampunk talents of the last decade, including Daniel Abraham, John Coulthart, William Gibson, and Margo Lanagan, and demonstrates exactly why the future of the past is so excitingly new.

A diverse collection, spanning all sorts of genres, where the only thing linking them together is the Victorian ascetic, and even that sometimes feels totally unnecessary and even tacked onto what would otherwise have been a fine story.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure this anthology is what convinced me I don’t like the genre.
